Steve Hambric and his daughter Lily.
Stephen A. Hambric is head of the Structural Acous- tics Department at the Applied Research Lab at Penn State and Associate Prof- essor in the Grad- uate Program in Acoustics. Prior to joining Penn State in 1996, Dr. Hambric worked for nine years in the Comp- utational
Mechanics Office at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. Dr. Hambric has directed many numeri- cal and experimental flow and structural acoustics research and development programs for the Navy, U.S. industry, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. He has authored over 60 conference and journal articles and advised many graduate stu- dents at Penn State. He teaches courses in Structural Acoustics, and Writing for Acousticians on campus at Penn State, and also to off-campus students working in industry and government. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Institute for Noise Control Engineering (INCE), on the Executive Committee of the ASME’s Noise Control and Acoustics
Division, and as an associate editor of ASME’s Journal of Vibration and Acoustics.
John Fahnline (in background) and his niece Mariel.
John B. Fahnline is a research associ- ate at the Applied Research Labora- tory and an assis- tant professor of acoustics at Penn State. He holds a Ph.D. in Acoustics from the Pennsylv- ania State University. As a post-doctoral researcher, Dr. Fahnline designed and implemented a practical, efficient,
and accurate method for numerically solving general, three dimensional acoustic radiation problems which can be applied to problems in design optimization and active noise control. The code, named POWER, is currently being used at the ARL Penn State to predict noise radiation from the structural resonances of compound propulsors. Dr. Fahnline coauthored a book on design optimization with Dr. Gary Koopmann.
