Andi Petculescu is Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He obtained the Diploma in Physics from the University of Bucharest (Romania) and the Ph. D. in Physics from Ohio University. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Center for Physical Acoustics and then at
Northwestern University. Andi has worked and published peer-reviewed papers in various aspects of physical acoustics, such as propagation in porous media, ultrasonic Doppler vibrometry, molecular acoustics, and ultrasonic gas sensing techniques. While at Northwestern University, he became interested in sound propagation in planetary environments and the development of acoustic sensors for planetary sci- ence missions. He is a collaborator on a NASA proposal for the development of an acoustic anemometer for use on Mars. He is currently organizing the special session “Acoustic probes of planetary environments,” which will be inaugurat- ed at ASA's 153rd Meeting in Salt Lake City.
Richard M. Lueptow is Interim Chair and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University as well as formerly holding the Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence Chair. He received his BS in Engineering from Michigan Technological University (1978) and his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1986). He studies acoustic gas compositions sensors, rotating filtration, granu- lar flows, as well as the fundamental physics of acoustic atten- uation, circular Couette flow, filtration systems, and fire sup- pression sprays. He has published over 80 journal papers on his research, two books on engineering graphics, and five patents. Professor Lueptow has five years of industrial expe- rience and teaches design as well as fluid mechanics. He is also Co-Director of the Master of Product Development Program at Northwestern and has a visiting collaboration at the University of Marseille and the University of Bremen.
