                                                                          Jeffrey J. Fox is an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the Bureau of African Affairs in the U.S. Department of State. Before starting his AAAS fellow- ship at the State Department, Jeff was an American Institute of Physics/Acoustical Society of America Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow. He spent the last year working in Senator Jeff Bingaman’s office on education issues, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Prior to his selec- tion as a Congressional Fellow, Jeff was a Visiting Scientist with the Center for Applied Mathematics at Cornell University. His research focused on computer models of the heart’s electrical activity. In addition to conducting research, Jeff vol- unteered his time with a third grade class at an elementary school in Ithaca. Before moving to Cornell, Jeff was a founding scientist and the Vice President of Cardiovascular Research at Gene Network Sciences, a biotechnology company. There he led an interdisciplinary research team that developed simulation software for studying cardiac rhythm disorders and the effects of drugs on cardiac electro- physiology. Jeff was born in Davenport, Iowa, and went to high school in Kent, Ohio. He graduated from the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Physics, and received a PhD in Physics from Cornell University.
