     Scan & Paint
a quick sound visualization tool
    Scan & Paint is a new tool to visualize sound fields. Several techniques exist to localize and/or quantify sound sources. Scan & Paint offers a fast method to visualize sound fields in a broad frequency range and is usable in environments with a high level of background noise or reflections.
In practice, there are many cases where anechoic conditions are not applicable, for instance in an industrial manufacturing environment. PU probe based sound intensity measurements, capturing both sound pressure and acoustic particle velocity, are not highly affected by background noise and reflections and suitable in situations with a high sound pressure over sound intensity ratio. In order to assess the quality in terms of radiated sound intensity often a very large number of measurement points is required. A fast method is now available where the position of the probe is filmed whilst recording the sound. With the synchronization of the sound and position data (synchronization of audio and video data), a new and powerful tool has become available to assess large surfaces and reverberant conditions, in a short period of time. Furthermore the same technique can be used for the in-situ acoustic testing of materials. Scanning the surface with the in-situ absorption setup using the Scan & Paint technology will provide high resolution visualization of surface in terms of impedance, absorption and reflection.
