The Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the premier international scientific society in acoustics, seeks an Executive Director. The job of the Executive Director is to help the ASA achieve its goal of increasing and diffusing the knowledge of acoustics and its practical applications. The ASA organizes and runs scientific meetings, publishes the leading journal in the field, develops national and international standards, and undertakes programs in public policy and education on behalf of its 7500 members. The Executive Director oversees and administers Society busi- ness activities and is responsible for smooth functioning of the ASA in accord with policies and guidance provided by the Executive Council of the Society. The annual operating budget of the ASA is approximately $5.5 million. The Executive Director leads a staff of nine in the So- ciety offices currently located in Melville, NY, and West Barnstable, MA. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s or advanced degree in science or engineering, graduate degree or equiv- alent experience in business administration, proven skills in business and financial manage- ment, the ability to work independently, and the ability to organize and lead others. The candidate must have effective written and oral communication skills, and at least 3-years ex- perience working with a governing board and committees. An understanding of scientific pub- lishing, and the ability to assist the Executive Council in developing plans for activities and finances of the Society are important qualities of the person we seek.
