ACOUSTICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA
The Acoustical Society of America was founded in 1929 “to increase and diffuse the knowledge of acoustics and to pro- mote its practical applications.” Information about the Society can be found on the Internet site <http://acousticalsociety.org>.
The Society has approximately 7000 members which are distributed worldwide with over 30% living outside the United States. Membership includes a variety of benefits, a list of which can be found at the site <http://acousticalsociety.org/member- ship/membership_and_benefits>.
All members receive online access to the entire contents of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America from 1929 to the present, as well as this magazine and the quarterly newsletter ECHOES. New members are welcome, and sever- al grades of membership, including special low rates for stu- dents and for persons living in developing countries, are pos- sible. Instructions for applying can be found at the Internet site given above.
FUTURE ISSUES
The Editor-in-Chief, who is presently serving as the acting edi- tor of Acoustics Today, has responsibility for the content of the next two issues (October 2013 and January 2014). The new Editor is expected to be appointed by the Executive Council in December and will possibly begin serving in January 2014. The plans for the next two issues are still being formulated, and suggestions are welcomed. The practice of having issues dedi- cated to special subfields is being discontinued for the time being, so it is anticipated that the next two issues will have arti- cles on a wide selection of acoustical topics.
