Ms. Guillemette and her colleagues in the ASA Publications Office will pro- vide staff support for the ASA Press Editorial Board. It is suggested that a book proposal submission include a ten- tative preface, a tentative table of con- tents, and a detailed outline.

The ASA will spend no money, although it will appoint the Editorial Board, which will be made up of volunteers. All the book which successfully pass through this route will have the ASA Press trade- mark on the cover , along with the Springer logo. The carrot to authors for first submitting their books to the ASA Press Editorial Board is that their books, once published, will bear the implicit endorsement of the world's leading professional society in acoustics. (This is in the sense that all articles published in JASA bear the implicit endorsement of the ASA. It doesn't, of course, mean that they are right, but it nevertheless means some- thing.) ASA members will also be able
to purchase all of the ASA Press/Springer books at a substantial discount.
The current ASA President, James H. Miller, has appointed an interim ASA Press Editorial Board, the mem- bership of which will be subject to con- firmation by the ASA Executive Council at the meeting in San Francisco in December. James (Jim) Cottingham has been appointed Chair of the Board. Other members are Erica Ryherd, Andrea Simmons, Diana Deutsch, William Yost, Mark Hamilton, Martin Siderius, Ning Xiang, Philip Marston, and Arthur Popper. Ex-officio members are the Chair of Books+ (Kenneth Foote) , the ASA Editor-in-Chief (Allan Pierce), and the Editor-in-Chief of the Springer series on Modern Acoustics and Signal
