measurement of random incident scat- tering coefficients. His drive and enthu- siasm in promoting acoustics through- out Europe contributes towards making him a worthy winner of the award. He is currently the President of the European Acoustics Association.
The R W B Stephens Medal was named after Dr. Ray Stephens, the first President of the Institute. His main interests lay in physical acoustics, but he is remembered by generations of students for his continuing work in education. The medal is awarded in odd numbered years for outstanding contributions to acoustics research or education.
Australian Acoustical Society hosts ACOUSTICS 2005
ACOUSTICS 2005, sponsored by the Australian Acoustical Society, will
be held 9–11 November 2005 in Busselton, Western Australia. The emphasis of the conference will be on practical applications of acoustical sci- ence and technology and practical solutions to acoustic problems. Topics will include: underwater (bioacoustics, propagation, sonar, and environmental impact); architectural acoustics; envi- ronmental noise; occupational health; and engineering noise control.
The conference will include tech- nical sessions, a conference dinner, a workshop, and trade displays. Further information can be found at www.acoustics.asn.au/.
Reproduced Sound 21—“Feeding Back to the Future”
The Electroacoustics Group of the Institute of Acoustics is organiz- ing the Reproduced Sound 21
Conference, which will take place in Oxford from 4–5 November.
The Institute of Acoustics' Reproduced Sound Conference, now in its twenty-first consecutive year, takes place at the Oxford Hotel in Wolvercote, Oxford. Reproduced Sound conferences represent the cutting edge of modern audio and acoustics. They are presented in an informal environment that allows consultants, manufacturers, contractors, and end users to mingle and share insights and information. For further information regarding this event, please contact Linda Canty, Institute of Acoustics, tel: 01727 848195, or visit the Reproduced Sound 21 Web site at www.reproducedsound.co.uk.
