nautics and energy is carried out in the University of Cambridge. She works primarily in the fields of com- bustion, acoustics and vibration and her research is aimed, in particular, at low-emission combustion and quiet vehicles. She is the UK lead of the Silent Aircraft Initiative, a collabora- tion between researchers at Cambridge and MIT who have recent- ly released the conceptual design of an ultra-low noise and fuel efficient air- craft, SAX40.
Professor Dowling is a Fellow of the Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering (Vice-President 1999- 2002) and is a Foreign Associate Member of the French Academy of Sciences.

The Polish Acoustical Society announced that volumes 25 through 30 (2000-2005) of their journal Archives of Acoustics are now available in pdf for- mat, at no charge, at http:// acoustics.ippt.gov.pl Archives of Acoustics is an English-language peer- reviewed journal published in Poland. It publishes original research papers in all areas of acoustics as well as 200-word abstracts of papers presented at interna- tional conferences on various branches of acoustics organized regularly in Poland (like the “International Symposia on Hydroacoustics,” “Inter- national Conferences on Speech Analysis, Synthesis, and Recognition,” and others).
