FROM THE EDITOR
Dick Stern
Applied Research Laboratory, The Pennsylvania State University State College, Pennsylvania
This is the first issue that, from birth, belonged to a Technical Committee. The Technical Committee on Noise enthusiastically responded to an editorial that suggested the concept of theme issues of Acoustics Today. This issue is theirs and contains three articles concern- ing noise as well as two additional articles, one on hot topics in noise and one on noise standards. To own an issue, including its cover and content, needs only three members that are each willing to write an article. The subject matter may be broad, as in this issue, or narrow, encompassing a particular topic in the field. I encourage the Technical Committee Chairs to contact some of their committee members and ask them to consider letting the rest of the Society know about their research and why it is important. Conversely, committee members, who might be interested in contributing to a themed issue, contact your Technical Committee Chair and tell them of your interest. Chairs and members, if you put me in the loop (AcousticsToday@aip.org), I’ll help. Don’t wait until we meet in Baltimore, do it now.
