ASA PUBLICATIONS STAFF
schools in New York City and Massachusetts. In 2013, I began working for the Publications Office of the ASA. My primary responsibilities were to manage the submission and prepublication processes for both POMA and AT. Under the great leadership of the editors and the editor in chief, both journals enjoyed amazing growth and increased visibility. In 2017, I became the full-time manuscript manager for POMA because it expanded its reach by publishing papers from a wide variety of acoustics-related cosponsored meet- ings as well as papers generated from past and present ASA meetings. This new focus and opportunity has allowed me to call on my marketing and public relations experience as we strive to maximize the use and awareness of POMA as a timely and relevant venue for acoustics research.
Kelly Quigley
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America Manuscript Manager
My experience in scientific publishing began as a member of the publishing
division staff of the AIP, where I served in several positions, including senior production editor in the Special Projects Department and culminating in my role as chief produc- tion editor of JASA. This prior experience has proved to be useful in my current position as JASA manuscript manager since 2004. My responsibilities encompass the publications process from the initial submission of manuscripts to JASA to the review process and the transmission of accepted manuscripts to AIP Publishing. I interact daily with JASA coordinating editors, associate editors, reviewers, authors, the publisher, and other members of the publications team. In addition to my role as JASA manuscript manager, I also serve as a member of the ASA headquarters office staff. My responsibilities in that position include attending ASA meetings to supervise the registration desk operations where meeting attendees collect their preregistration materi- als or register on-site. I also coordinate the plenary sessions and award ceremonies at meetings with the ASA president, vice president, award recipients, and the audiovisual com- pany that provides live action projection during the session.
Kat Setzer
Editorial Assistant
My background is actually in creative writing; I have an MFA in fiction and worked at a few literary journals over the years. Since joining the ASA publi-
cations staff in 2017, I’ve had my hands in multiple pots. I
started part time as the editorial coordinator for AT; in this role, I act as a liaison between the AT editor, our authors, and our designers through the entire production process, ensuring that content goes from editing to layout to proof- ing to printing as timely and efficiently as possible. My role eventually expanded to include other tasks: managing the social media sites for JASA and POMA, helping Kelly and Saana with submissions and e-mails when they’re away, monitoring JASA and JASA Express Letters, submissions to ensure that they’re moving through the review process efficiently, coordinating JASA cover selections, coordinat- ing quarterly JASA technical area picks, overseeing yearly database submission maintenance to update or remove out-of-date user profiles, and anything else that the editors or publications staff need help with. But my first loyalty is, and will always be, to Acoustics Today!
Malené Walters
Publications Business Manager
I am the newest member of the ASA publications staff, having joined ASA in March. I come with a BS in advertising
and marketing communications as well as an AAS in com- puter engineering. I have worked in various industries, most recently for a government relations firm in New York City. My new role at ASA is a mixture of business, administra- tion, and marketing. I oversee handling all the financial and business operations of the ASA Publications office as well as filling the role of financial liaison for ASA Publications with publisher AIP Publishing and ASA headquarters. I also assist the publications staff with administrative and project- based initiatives. My first big project is managing and taking the lead on ASA Books, particularly the print-on-demand program. I am so thrilled to be working with this talented team at ASA Publications and look forward to upholding the Society’s initiatives.
