AT Collections – Noise Effect and Criteria – Underwater Sound and Marine Mammals

Acoustics touches a wide range of our lives and the world.  Occupational and recreational noise exposure is the primary cause of hearing loss among humans.  Just like terrestrial, animals, aquatic animals are affected by human-created noise.  The Acoustical Society of America is involved in researching, developing, and establishing standards for all manner of persons and animals.  Acoustic standards for speech privacy, learning environments, living spaces, and work environments are important contributions to making a better and healthier world to live.  Acoustic standards for underwater noise can help to improve and preserve the habitat for marine mammals, fishes, and invertebrates.
