Bruce A. Carlson is a professor in the Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri. He received a BS in biology and marine science from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, and a PhD in neurobiology and behavior from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. His laboratory studies sensory processing, brain evolution, and the neural basis of behavior in weakly electric fishes using neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, computational modeling, field work, and behavior. Outside the laboratory, he enjoys cycling, traveling, hiking with his dogs, rooting for Chicago sports teams, and enjoying craft beer. He has also been involved in local politics and activism in St. Louis
