Reflected Sound: Friend or Foe?
Multimedia 1. A recording of a string quartet playing an excerpt from the third movement of the Summer of the Four Seasons by Vivaldi in an anechoic chamber (Thery and Katz 2019).
Multimedia 2. The anechoic excerpt from the third movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons convolved with a binaural room impulse response (BRIR) from the Laura Turner Concert Hall at a seat located 10 m from the sound source. The BRIR was recreated from measurements made with a spherical microphone array and an omnidirectional sound source on stage in the Laura Turner Concert Hall (Neal 2019)
Multimedia 3. A hand clap convolved with a BRIR measured outdoors in Koli National Park, Finland during winter with snow cover on the ground (Chadwick and Shelley 2022).
Multimedia 4. A recording of a hand clap in an anechoic chamber, without any reflected sound.
Multimedia 5. A hand clap convolved with a BRIR measured in the Innocent Railway Tunnel, Edinburgh, Scotland (Chadwick and Shelley 2022).
Multimedia 6. A hand clap convolved with a BRIR from the Laura Turner Concert Hall at a seat located 10 m from the sound source. Rendering methods were the same as in Multimedia 2.
